CMH Now Has 24/7 ICU Coverage
HICKSVILLE, OH—Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) has contracted with Hospital Care Group (HCG) to provided 24/7 coverage for its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) program. CMH’s ICU serves young adult to geriatric patients who are critically ill as a result of surgery, injury, or acute illness. Symptoms may include acute respiratory failure, cardiac instability, or multisystem organ failure. The ICU patient may require cardiac monitoring, specialized nursing care, or pharmacologic treatments not provided in less acute hospital areas.
Since the introduction of its ICU program in 2009, CMH has provided excellent high-level care for critically ill patients. This service allows patients to receive high-quality individualized care close to home, avoiding transfers to larger hospitals farther from home.
Founder of HCG, Khurrum A. Shaikh, MD, and his staff will provide 24/7 coverage of CMH’s ICU. Prior to opening HCG, Dr. Shaikh pioneered Parkview Hospital’s hospitalist program, which has now grown to 14 physicians seeing 120 patients per day. Dr. Shaikh is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
“Dr. Shaikh is a dynamic, energetic, team-oriented physician,” said Jane Zachrich, Chief Nursing Officer and VP Patient Services. “His extensive clinical and leadership experience makes him a perfect fit for our hospital. We are thrilled to partner with Dr. Shaikh and HCG to provide this high level of care at CMH.”
All of CMH’s ICU Registered Nurses (RNs) are Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified in addition to completing additional courses in critical care education. At least one ICU nurse is in house at all times.
