Michael A. Arata, MD, a board certified orthopedic surgeon with Fort Wayne Orthopedics (FWO) since 1981, sees patients and performs surgery at Community Memorial Hospital (CMH). Specializing in hip and spine surgery, Dr. Arata is a visiting specialist with the Musculoskeletal Institute of Community Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Arata treats pediatric cases including scoliosis and kyphosis. He also works with adult spine patients. Dr. Arata brings a new procedure to CMH—the Anterior Approach for total hip replacement. He is one of only a handful of surgeons in the region who perform the Anterior Approach.
Dr. Arata is also an instructor in area residency programs and served as medical staff president for both St. Joseph Medical Center and Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He is originally from Fort Wayne and comes from a medical family. His father was a general surgeon who often performed surgery right here at CMH. In fact, as a child, Dr. Arata remembers waiting in our lounge for his father to finish surgery. When it comes to his free time he loves to spend time with his five children, swim, fish, and play golf.
